Information about Magahinga Gorilla National park

The Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is situated in the southwest, sharing border with  Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. It is less known because it’s marketing level is less than that of Bwindi forest.

This park offers both gorilla trekking and golden monkey tracking, not forgetting volcano hikes.

What Does a Gorilla Trekking Permit in Uganda Cost?

In order to visit mountain gorillas in the wild, you must first obtain a gorilla permit at USD 700 per person for normal tracking in either of the above Gorilla parks. Here you will spend 1 hour of observation of gorillas after finding them.

On the other hand, Gorilla tracking permit for Gorilla Habituation Experience coast 1500USD. After finding wild gorillas you will spend 4 hours with them

Why Do Gorilla Permits Cost So Much?

Gorilla permits are expensive because the government invests a lot in conserving these endangered mountain gorillas that are facing extinction.

On the other hand, a portion of the gorilla permit is to pay game rangers, armed officers that give protection to the trekkers when visiting the gorillas.

Lastly, some of the funds help in financing nearby roads, hospitals, and schools. As it benefits the community and all the people involved, it is actually a fair price to pay.

How much is a gorilla Safari in Uganda?

On average, the total price for either 2 days Gorilla Tour or 3 days Gorilla safari with one day of visiting the gorillas depends on the type of accommodation you choose, be it Luxury, Mid-range and Budget.

Short Gorilla packages cost between 1500USD to 2500 USD.

The above price excludes porter fee.

Porters will help you to carry your belongings and give you support when stuck some where during the trekking exercise.
