Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund or Dian Fossey Research Camp Grave Hike
The hike is between 5 -7 hours hike to and from to see the grave of the Gorilla lover and science researcher and her former Karisoke Research Center a home that she referred to as a mausoleum.
Volcano Climbing in Virungas – Mt. Sabyinyo hike, Bisoke Hike and Karisimbi hike in Volcanoes National Park
The volcanoes to hike include
-Mount Karisimbi which is a snow-capped Volcano, hiking duration at least 2 days and hiking permit is 400USD
-Mount Bisoke can be hiked on 1 Day Tour – about 7 – 8 hours of climbing and descending, hiking permit cost 75USD
-Mount Sabyinyo hiking is 1 day and can be best hiked from Kisoro Uganda. At the apex of the hike, a climber finds himself in 3 countries of Rwanda, Uganda and DR Congo at the same time. Hiking permit costs 85USD
Lake Ngezi Hike
Lake Ngezi is a shallow crater lake at the foot of Mount Visoke and is the shortest hike in Volcanoes National Park. Duration is 3 to 4 hours round trip
Twin Lakes hike – Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo
These 2 Lakes are similar to Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda, their views are scenic. Hiking to these twin lakes is free of charge. Duration is 3 -4 hours round trip and the best view can be got at Virunga Lodge. At this place one can view a chain of Virunga Volcanoes in the back ground of these twin lake. Guest interested in taking a canoe or a boat trip can arrange from ground and prices are negotiable
Buhanga Sacred Forest Nature Walk
Buhanga Sacred Forest Hill is a small Traditional forest where the kings of Rwanda came and bathed in the waters prior to their coronation. The forest became sacred grounds in that those who lived locally refused to cut down tree and cultivate gardens and farms nearby.
