Uganda is known for its diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes, making it a popular destination for tourists. One of the most unique and exciting experiences in Uganda is gorilla trekking. This one-day adventure allows you to get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. In this article, we will discuss everything you need to know about gorilla trekking in Uganda, including the age limit and the best time to go.
What is Gorilla Trekking in Uganda
Gorilla trekking is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that allows you to observe and interact with endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Uganda is home to over half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population, making it one of the best places to go gorilla trekking. The trekking experience typically lasts between 2-8 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family and the difficulty of the terrain.

Age Limit for 1 Day Gorilla Trek Uganda
The minimum age for gorilla trekking in Uganda is 15 years old. This is to ensure the safety of both the gorillas and the trekkers. The trekking experience can be physically demanding, and younger children may not have the stamina to complete the trek. Additionally, children under the age of 15 are more susceptible to diseases that can be transmitted from humans to gorillas. However, there is no maximum age limit, as long as the individual is physically fit and able to complete the trek.
Best Time to Go 1 Day Gorilla Trek Uganda
The best time to go gorilla trekking in Uganda is during the dry season, which runs from June to September and December to February. During this time, the weather is more predictable, and the trails are less muddy, making the trekking experience more enjoyable. It is also easier to spot the gorillas as they tend to stay in lower altitudes during the dry season. However, gorilla trekking can be done year-round, and the rainy season can also offer a unique and beautiful experience.
Permits and Regulations
In order to go gorilla trekking in Uganda, you will need to obtain a permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. These permits cost $700 per person and are limited to a maximum of 8 people per gorilla family per day. This is to ensure the safety and conservation of the gorillas. It is recommended to book your permit in advance, as they can sell out quickly, especially during peak season.
