Rwanda Gorilla Permits Booking
Booking Gorilla Permits for Volcano national park Rwanda can be done through either Katona Tours and Travel offices or online website or at RDB Offices and Irembo website. Just like any other Gorilla Permits, Rwanda Gorilla Permits are valid for 1 day
There are a number of Habituated Gorilla Families in Volcanoes Park which is surrounded by Virunga Volcanoes such as Bisoke Volcano, Mikeno Volcano and Karisimbi Volcanoes which shelters these endangered Mountain Gorillas.
RDB has played a very big role in Gorilla Conservation by letting a group of local community of Rwandase to entertain the Trekkers with their traditional songs and dances free of charge but receive tips from the Trekkers for the entertainment and in return, the local community conserve and protect these endangered Mountain Gorillas from poaching, thus the number has gone up.
Procedures for Gorilla Trekkers who have Rwanda Gorilla Permits to follow during Gorilla Tours
Gorilla Trekking advise for Gorilla Trackers, along with their Gorilla Permits and Passports, report to Volcanoes Park Headquarters in Kinigi at 07.00 Am for briefing, registration and allocation of Gorilla Groups to Trek.

Assignment of Gorilla families to trek basing on Rwanda Gorilla Permits
The Gorilla Families to be trekked by Tourists are determined basing on the Trekkers strength and the Trekkers departure flight.
Trekkers who are weak, old and have departure flights on the Trekking day, are assigned to Gorilla Families that are sighted nearer or Gorilla families that are easy to Trek, where as Strong Trekkers are assigned to families that are Tough or difficult to trek.
All Gorilla families are trekked by an equal number of 8 tourists daily and are expected to spend a maximum of 1 or 2 hours.

Agashya Gorilla Family
This Gorilla family has 25 members with a dominant silverback, 12 females, 3 youth gorillas and 7 young ones. Originally called Group 13, Agashya Gorilla family had 13 members but the dominate silver back Agashya worked tirelessly to increase the number to 25.
Amahoro Gorilla Family
The most peace ful Gorilla family is Amahoro, blessed with 17 members where Ubumwe is the dominate silver back and leader of the family.
Bwenge Gorilla Family
Bwenge is the dominate silver back leading a group of 11 members along the Karisoke volcanic area
Hirwa Gorilla Family
Hirwa gorilla family has a group of 9 members including a dominant silver back, 3 female mountain gorillas, 2 juveniles and 3 young ones. The family was formed following a mixture of members from Agashya family and Sabyinyo family.
Kwitonda Gorilla Family
Kwitonda family has 18 members which migrated from democratic republic of Congo as lead by Kwitonda the dominant silver back.
Sabyinyo Gorilla Family
This group is led by a dominant silver back Guhonda , it has 8 members staying on the slopes of Mount Sabyinyo volcano which shares borders with 3 countries of Uganda, Rwanda and Congo.
The Family has 3 female mountain gorillas, 2 youthful gorillas and a young mountain gorilla.
Susa Gorilla Family
Susa family is located on the other side of Volcanoes park on the way to Gisenyi . Blessed with Twins also with the oldest habituated gorillas, Susa family has 28 individuals including 3 silverbacks 3 male gorillas. Earlier on the family had 42 members when Dian Fossey carried out her research on the mountain Gorillas.
Susa B Gorilla Family / Karisimbi gorilla family
This group occupies Mount Karisimbi slopes and is blessed with 15 members that broke away from Susa gorilla family.
Ugenda Gorilla Family
With a total of 11 mountain gorilla members, Ugenda family inhabits the Karisimbi volcanic area and has 2 silverbacks.
Umubano Gorilla Family
Led by a dominate silver back Charles after a stiff fight with Amahoro family, 11 members formed Umubano family with 1 silver back, 1 black back, 3 females and 6 young ones.
